Mets general manager Sandy Alderson addressed the media in view of the two trades the Mets made before the deadline today, and stated that Asdrubal Cabrera will remain active tonight, because newly reacquired Jon Niese won’t join the team until tomorrow.

Additionally, Matt Reynolds is present at Citi Field tonight and will take Antonio Bastardo‘s roster spot for the time being. Cabrera is projected to hit the disabled list tomorrow, so Reynolds could stick with the team for the near future.

Cabrera, 30, was hitting .255/.308/.410 in 100 games in his first year of a two-year deal with the Mets when he went down with the injury on Sunday.

Reynolds, 25, has hit only .233/.267/.419 in 43 plate appearances in a limited role for the Mets this season, but will look to make a bigger impact this time around.
