Matt Harvey‘s season may have officially come to an end on Monday after he underwent surgery to relieve his thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms, but the former Mets ace’s social media profiles knows no offseason.
After the procedure, Harvey posted the following picture on his Twitter account, with the caption:
“Watching the game from my hospital bed. One less rib, but the road to recovery has begun.”
The surgery, performed by specialist David Thompson in St. Louis, will sideline Harvey for the remainder of the 2016 season. If his recovery goes according to plan, the Mets are confident that he will be ready for the start of the 2017 season.
It’s worth noting that several pitchers, including the Cardinals’ Jaime Garcia, the Twins’ Phil Hughes, and former All Star Josh Beckett all underwent the same procedure to remedy TOS symptoms. All returned the following season with varying degrees of success.
Coming off a disappointing 2016 where he went 4 and 10 with a 4.86 ERA, Harvey will certainly be hungry to return to his dominating form. For the sake of Mets fans everywhere, let’s hope he can do it.
