matt harvey usa todayOn Monday night, righthander Matt Harvey declared himself “ahead of schedule,” six days after undergoing the surgery, according to a report this morning from the Daily News.

“I am just doing range of motion stuff now, but today was the first day I could take the bandages off and I was at Hospital for Special Surgery working and everybody thinks I am ahead of schedule,” Harvey told the Daily News in his first comments since the procedure.

The 24-year-old All-Star was walking to the “blue carpet,” outside the Garden before the Rangers’ first home game of the season with his super model girlfriend Anne V,

“We were able to straighten it today and I think they were surprised I could do that, already. So the rehab is ahead of schedule,” said Harvey, a big Rangers fan and frequently in the stands at the Garden.

This is great news and with some pitchers having been able to return to the game after as little as ten months, it points to a chance that we can still see Harvey play before the 2014 season comes to an end.

Harvey could likely begin a throwing program by June and how things go at that time will give everyone a better indication of when the Met ace can officially make his return.

Jenrry Mejia returned back to the mound ten months after Tommy John surgery, and I’m sure nobody knows that better than Matt Harvey.
