Making his second start of the Grapefruit League season, right-hander Matt Harvey tossed three scoreless for the Mets today as they hosted the Detroit Tigers at First Data Field.

Harvey, 28, needed 48 pitches to get through his outing, tossing 27 of them for strikes. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one in what was another impressive start for the former All-Star.

Like Noah Syndergaard on Sunday, Harvey was working on his secondary offerings for the most part, tossing an assortment of sliders, changeups, and curveballs. However, he did light up the radar gun with a 96 mph fastball in the first, and his velocity was in the 92-95 mph range.

In his first start of the spring last week, Harvey tossed two innings, allowing a run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. It was a significant step forward for Harvey as for the first time in almost two years, he threw 100 percent pain-free.

Harvey returned from Thoracic Outlet surgery last season, but then ended up with an injury to his right scapula that knocked him out action for three months.

Mickey Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland have been very encouraged with what they’ve seen from Harvey in camp and both believe he will return to the dominant pitcher we saw in 2015.

“He looked like the old Harvey for me. He looked like a No. 1,’’ former Braves manager Bobby Cox said after watching Harvey against the Braves last Wednesday. “The velocity was really good. He’s in great shape. He looked super. I watched him warm up in the bullpen as well, I was super impressed. His mound presence was great.’’

Both Callaway and Eiland convinced the Mets not to trade Matt Harvey at the MLB Winter Meetings, and believe they could help him rediscover his former self.

This season is a walk year for Harvey, who put up a career-worst 6.70 ERA in 2017, so he’ll be pitching for a new multi-year deal as added motivation. His goal is to put last season in the past and focus on being the best he can be in 2018.

“I’m striving to be better than I was before and there’s no reason why I can’t,” Harvey said. “There’s a lot left in the tank. I’m ready to go, I’m excited. The ball is coming out better than it has in a long time. I’m just excited.”

I have a good feeling about this….
