The Mets added an eight-year veteran when they signed primary first baseman Matt Adams to a minor league deal this January. The 31-year-old has recorded a .261 BA and a .778 OPS in his past eight years, including 20 home runs and 56 RBIs with his former team, the World Series champions, Washington Nationals.

With Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith taking up much of the time at first, Adams has taken it upon himself to take more reps in the outfield this offseason. In his eight-year career, Adams has played a total of 70 games in the outfield and has secured a fielding percentage of .958. Adams has been putting some time in at first as well, but between Alonso and Smith, it is more likely that Adams would see time in the outfield or off the bench as a pinch hitter.

Adams has 11 career home runs as a pinch hitter as well as 49 RBIs, however last season he went 3 for 33 in pinch situations last season.

With an abundance of first basemen and outfielders, it is more likely that veteran Adams will start his season in Syracuse, but he is making it clear that he will play where the Mets need him to in order to join the team in Queens.
