And so it begins! With baseball finally back and free agency officially open for business, rumors and signings will be aplenty over the next few days.

First, let’s get caught back up. Prior to the lockout, the Mets went on a spending frenzy adding Starling Marte, Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar, and of course Max Scherzer to the mix.

Even after the splurge, numerous reports have indicated the Mets are still looking to add another bat and some pitching to help round out the roster. With the addition of the designated hitter, many have speculated a return of outfielder Michael Conforto may be an option.

However, according to SNY’s Andy Martino, sources have told him that a reunion with the left-handed slugger is not on the teams radar. Additionally, the Mets are not expected to pursue third baseman Kris Bryant either.

Conforto spent the first seven years of his big league career donning the orange and blue. Some of the teams that have reportedly shown interest in the sweet-swinging lefty include the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and Miami Marlins amongst numerous others.

The Mets were one of the teams most connected to Bryant prior to the lockout. Numerous other teams have reportedly shown interest including the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners.

Martino’s source indicated the Mets are not expected to add another “big name” free agent, and would rather be focused on improving the starting rotation and bullpen while also possibly adding a depth bat to the mix.
