According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets have Pirates’ lefty Tyler Anderson on their radar as they look to bolster their starting rotation.
Anderson, 31, has a 4.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 1.0 fWAR this season for the Pirates. The former first round pick is a free agent after this season. He’s found success this year by limiting walks, he has a career-low 2.2 BB/9. On the flip side, he’s only struck out 80 in 97 innings and has given up 16 home runs.
While Carlos Carrasco did throw a successful two innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Thursday to begin his assignment, injuries have hit the Mets starter depth hard. Joey Lucchesi is out for the season following Tommy John surgery, David Peterson is on the injured list, Corey Oswalt is on the injured list, Jordan Yamamoto is on the 60-day IL, and Noah Syndergaard is still working his way back from TJS.
The Mets big three of Jacob deGrom, Taijuan Walker, and Marcus Stroman have been terrific this season, but the injuries have left the Mets with Robert Stock and Jerad Eickhoff starting games recently.
Martino also notes in the article that the Mets do have interest in Kris Bryant as reported by Jon Heyman of MLB Network last night. He also says that the Mets see the price for Pirates 2B/OF Adam Frazier as high.
