Marte’s three run shot sealed the deal for the B-Mets on Wednesday night

Behind a five run second inning the Binghamton Mets were able to take game three of their series against the New Britain Rock Cats by a final tally of eight to three.  In that inning the B-Mets raked out four hits capped off by Jefry Marte’s ninth home run of the season, a three run shot over the left field wall.  The hit total in the second inning was half of the overall number of hits Binghamton had in the game.

Marte ended up 2-for-4 on the night, with the three RBI’s and run scored in the second.  Of all the B-Mets batters, he was the only one with an extra base hit in the game.  Reese Havens, who batted leadoff for only the eighth time this season, went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.  Havens also had a strikeout and walk in the game.

Eric Campbell and Raul Reyes were 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Allan Dykstra was 1-for-4 with a run scored as well.  Wilmer Flores went 0-for-4 in the game, but scored two runs.  He had a walk and a strikeout, and also reached base on a play that was scored a force out with Pedro Zapata out at third and Flores reaching safely to first on the play.  Flores would score later in the inning on Marte’s home run.

Starter Darin Gorski pitched six innings for the B-Mets earning his seventh win of the season in the process.  Gorski allowed two runs on four hits, struck out two and walked one.  He threw a total of 93 pitches in the game, 56 of them for strikes.

Armando Rodriguez relieved Gorski in the seventh inning, throwing one frame of shutout baseball, allowing one hit and striking out one in his appearance.  One night after his second win as a B-Met, Adam Kolarek was brought on in the eighth inning and lasted one third of that inning.  Kolarek faced three batters, allowed one run on one hit and walked one.  Ryan Fraser was brought on to finish out the eighth and stayed in the game to complete the ninth as well.  In one and two thirds innings, Fraser struck out two while allowing no runs and no hits.

B-Mets Buzz: Marte’s three RBI night increased his season total to 52, good enough for the top spot on the B-Mets.  Game four, the final game of the series, will be Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.  Greg Peavey (5-7, 5.38) takes the mound for the B-Mets against the Rock Cats Logan Darnell (8-9, 4.99).  After Thursday’s game Binghamton is off to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a three game weekend series against the Senators.  With 25 games remaining in the 2012 season, Binghamton is seven games out of a playoff spot.  The B-Mets have not appeared in the Eastern League post-season since 2004.
