Miami Marlins president David Samson is a creep. Sorry if that comes off as too judgmental, but it happens to be the truth.

In a speech he gave to local Miami business leaders today, Samson gloated about his success in duping Miami for the taxpayer money that resulted in the sweetheart deal to build his team’s new stadium. He then mocked the citizens of Miami and suggested they were stupid for footing the bill and enriching him and the team.

“I don’t have to hold back now that the stadium is built — not that I ever have,” Samson said according to Miami Today.

“We’re not the smartest people in Miami. If you’re in this room, you’re instantly in the top 1 percent. We don’t care if nobody comes. We’ll play in front of nobody, and we’ll have all the money.”

Wow, what a despicable thing to say.

He went on to say that baseball players are terrible role models and should never be looked at that way, and then the subject switched to Jose Reyes.

Forget what Reyes said about liking the city, and the team, and the direction the team was going in. According to Samson all that mattered was getting as much of that green stuff as he could.

“He said “I really want to play in Miami as long as you pay me $1 more than anyone else… I really want to make the most money I can,'” Samson said of the negotiations.

I’d take Fred Wilpon over this creep any day.
