Matt Ehalt of NJ.com is reporting that New York Mets outfielder/first baseman Jay Bruce does not have the Seattle Mariners on his five-team no-trade clause.
Bruce has been mentioned numerous times recently in rumors regarding the Mets possibly swinging a deal with the Mariners for second baseman Robinson Cano.
The Mets owe Bruce $28 million over the next two seasons after signing him for three years last offseason. He struggled to a .223/.310/.370 slash line and career-low nine home runs. Multiple injuries in 2018, limited the 31-year-old to a career-low 94 games.
Cano has five-years, $120 million left on his deal with the Mariners, and Bruce is seen as a way to start evening some of the money out.
The original report by Joel Sherman of the Mariners being on Bruce’s no-trade list was incorrect and this article has been updated.
