The New York Mets are coming into this season with plenty of question marks when it comes to their starting rotation. The loss of Noah Syndergaard for the season was a massive blow, leaving them with little depth to deal with other injuries.

After appearing to have dodged any serious injury with Jacob deGrom and his back tightness, the Mets are now concerned about their other top starting pitcher. Marcus Stroman.

Stroman figured to be the clear No. 2 starter behind deGrom, but now it looks like he could miss some time at the start of the season. Our own Jacob Resnick reported from Luis Rojas‘ presser that Stroman is dealing with calf tightness.

Rojas called Stroman’s injury day-to-day, but with the season rapidly approaching, there is not much time for his calf to heal. Unlike in a typical season where the Mets may have some days off around Opening Day, the Mets schedule is jam-packed.

Starting with Friday’s Opening Day, New York will play games for 13-straight days, with their first day off coming on August 6th. If his injury is lingering at all, the Mets may need to put Stroman on the IL.

The Mets have yet to announce their starting rotation behind deGrom, who will get the nod on Opening Day. Corey Oswalt, Erasmo Ramirez and rookie David Peterson are all options to get spot starts if Stroman is not ready for his turn in the rotation.
