With the Florida Complex League Mets season ending following their 7-1 loss to the Braves on Thursday, a big group of the players have been promoted to Low-A St. Lucie. The two most notable names are INF Marcos Vargas and 1B/C Ronald Hernandez, both acquired when the Mets traded veteran reliever David Robertson to the Marlins.

Vargas, 18, has struggled a bit since the trade with a .666 OPS in 15 games, but still walked 10 times. For the season in the FCL, he has a .270/.434/.401 slash line with far more walks (48) than strikeouts (31) in 48 games. He has played shortstop, third base, and second base this year. The talented left-handed hitter also has 10 steals on the season.

Vargas is No. 7 on my updated Mets prospect list, and Baseball Prospectus noted he will likely be in the Top 101 in their next update.

Hernandez, 19, had an incredible .286/.509/.486 slash line in 14 games with the FCL Mets. Yup, you read that right, a .509 on-base percentage. He had 15 walks, four doubles, one home run, and 11 RBIs in those 14 games. The switch-hitter led the FCL with his overall .476 OBP and his 155 wRC+ ranked second. Hernandez is No. 20 on my updated list.

The duo had the top two walk percentages in the FCL, Hernandez at 24.6% and Vargas at 21.9%.

The Mets also promoted the following five right-handed pitchers to St. Lucie:

The 19-year-old Esterlin is the most notable of the group. He was second in the FCL with 57 strikeouts and allowed only 30 hits in 42 2/3 innings. Simon was the Mets 13th round pick this year and had two scoreless outings in the FCL.

To make room for those players in St. Lucie, the following have been promoted to High-A Brooklyn:

In other Mets minor league news, home run leader Luke Ritter will miss the rest of the season with an oblique strain. The 26-year-old led the Mets minor leagues this year with 27 home runs between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse.

Lastly, Mark Vientos begins a rehab assignment on Friday, with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets hitting third and playing third base.
