A new name has surfaced in the Mets managerial pursuit, as former coach Manny Acta will interview for the position later this week, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
Acta, 48, was the third base coach for the Mets in 2005 and 2006 before going on to manage the Washington Nationals (2007-09) and Cleveland Indians (2010-12). In four seasons between the two teams, Acta compiled a 372-518 (.418) record.
He is currently the manager of the Águilas Cibaeñas of the Dominican Winter League. He managed the Tigres del Licey from 2003-05, including leading them to victory at the 2004 Caribbean Series. Acta additionally managed the Dominican Republic team at the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
He has been with the Seattle Mariners since last year and was just bumped up to bench coach.
