The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Pete Mackanin will not return as the team’s manager in 2018 though he will stay in the organization as a special assistant to the general manager.

Mackanin, 66, went 147-206 as manager of the Phillies from 2015 through this season. Previously, he was the Phillies third base coach under Ryne Sandberg.

The Phillies had just signed Mackanin to a two-year extension in May, and now he’s fired four months later.

Brad Ausmus was fired by the Detroit Tigers last week and Terry Collins is not expected to be back with the Mets in 2018.
