Multiple sources have reported that Luis Rojas is a candidate to replace Carlos Beltran as Mets manager. The Mets announced on Thursday afternoon that they agreed with Beltran to mutually part ways.
Rojas, Mets current quality control coach, was interviewed multiple times by the Mets in their search to replace Mickey Callaway earlier this offseason.
The 38-year-old has been a coach in the Mets system since 2007 and he managed the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2017 and 2018. He joined the Mets major league staff prior to the 2019 to serve as an in-between for the Mets analytics department to the players.
Rojas also has multiple years of experience managing in the Dominican Winter Leagues, including two titles. Coming up through the Mets system, he managed the following current Mets; Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Tomas Nido, Tyler Bashlor, Drew Smith, Daniel Zamora, Luis Guillorme, Robert Gsellman, Corey Oswalt, Seth Lugo, Amed Rosario, Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo, Dominic Smith, Stephen Nogosek, Steven Matz, Paul Sewald, and Jacob deGrom.
Rojas is the son of former long-time manage Felipe Alou and the brother of former Mets outfielder Moises Alou.
