The Mets announced that Jed Lowrie has soreness behind his left knee according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.

GM Brodie Van Wagenen said on Thursday night that the MRI showed no significant damage to the knee. The 34-year-old Lowrie signed a two-year deal the Mets this offseason and is expected to see a majority of his time at third base in 2019.

In other injury news, Brandon Nimmo is expected to miss the first few Spring Training games with a sore right shoulder.

According to Wayne Randazzo of WCBS 880, Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said on the airwaves “Jed Lowrie’s MRI revealed no significant damage, and they’ll bring him along slowly.”

Lowrie was sidelined on Wednesday with a sore left knee and was sent for a MRI shortly there after.

The 34-year-old has played over 150 games each of the last two seasons for the Oakland Athletics. He hit .272/.356/.448 with 86 doubles, 37 home runs, and 168 RBI during that time span.

Lowrie was an All-Star in 2018 and the leader on the 97 win A’s team. He signed a two-year deal with the Mets earlier this winter. Lowrie is a CAA client and used to be represented by Van Wagenen, so Brodie knows the importance of health to Jed’s career.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway said they figured the veteran Lowrie would need only 40 spring at-bats to get ready for the regular season.
