During a trip to the United States last week, London Mayor Sadiq Khan met with New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon, and threw the first pitch at a game against the Twins.
“The owner of the New York Mets was very receptive,” Khan said. “We’re in discussions about MLB and we want MLB to come to London.”
The idea of Major League Baseball in Europe is not a brand new one, as MLB had mentioned an interest in playing at Olympic Stadium in March of 2012. The idea is to play in Europe in general, however Olympic Stadium is favorable because of its dimensions.
Major League Baseball has travelled around the globe before, playing in Japan, Mexico, and most recently, Australia in 2014 when the Dodgers twice beat the Diamondbacks at the Sydney Cricket Ground. There were some talks last year to play in Taiwan, however they never came to fruition.
