As per Tim Healey of Newsday, the New York Mets have recalled Jose Lobaton to serve as a fourth man on the bench for the team.

Lobaton, 33, hit .152/.250/.239 with three runs batted in and two doubles in 46 at-bats this year for the Mets.

He and Tomas Nido split the catching duties after Kevin Plawecki and Travis d’Arnaud both went down with injuries in early-April.

When the team traded for Devin Mesoraco, Lobaton was sent back to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he’s hit .371/.436/.600 with two homers and ten runs batted in in 35 at-bats this season for the 51’s.

The team has also designated right-handed reliever Scott Copeland for assignment to make room for Lobaton on the 40-man roster and active roster.

In his only appearance for the team, in last night’s loss to the Cubs, the 30-year-old pitched an inning-and-a-third, allowing one hit and striking out two.

This season for Double-A Binghamton, Copeland pitched to a 3.22 earned-run average in 22.1 innings pitched and had a 6.00 earned-run average in six innings with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mets catcher Devin Mesoraco was hit by a hard back swing from Javier Baez last night, but went through concussion protocol and is batting fourth tonight.
