After a disappointing performance the day before, the New York Mets’ bats came alive, and their pitching was outstanding as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 in the series finale at Citizens Bank Park.

Nolan McLean was all the Mets needed on the bump, as he delivered six impressive innings while recording a season-high 10 strikeouts, allowing just two hits and two walks, notching his seventh win of the season.

Following his excellent performance, he lowered his season ERA to 3.34 and 1.50 in July. In his last eight starts, McLean has gone five or more innings seven times and has only given up three or more runs once in that span, along with 48 total strikeouts.

A.J. Minter relieved McLean and allowed three hits, including a home run by Alec Bohm, but managed to limit the damage to just one run. Huascar Brazoban then struck out two consecutive batters to close out the eighth inning. Cionel Perez would be called upon to finish the game, and after allowing a hit to Brandon Marsh, was able to hold the fort and close out the afternoon for the Mets.

The Mets quickly got to Phillies starter Alan Rangel, chasing him early in the game and later adding another run against reliever Tim Mayza. Francisco Lindor spearheaded the offensive effort with one of his best games of the season, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a single, three RBIs, two walks, and three runs scored.

Lindor kicked off the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning and added an RBI single during a three-run second inning, which also featured a double from Luis Torrens and a sacrifice fly from Carson Benge, giving New York a commanding 5-0 lead. The Mets increased their advantage to 6-0 in the sixth inning when Juan Soto hit an RBI single to center field.

Along with Lindor and Soto, A.J. Ewing, Bo Bichette, and Torrens also contributed with multiple hits during the game. The Mets left 15 runners on base and went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

Player of the Game: Francisco Lindor

Amidst a flurry of trade whispers from outside the room, Francisco Lindor showed exactly why he is the guy the Mets want as short, as he went 3-for-3 with a home run that was blasted into the second deck, a double, a single, two walks, and three runs scored.

Even during what might be a lost season, a resurgent Francisco Lindor would aid this franchise in many ways now and in the near future.

The Mets waste no time and head on the road again, this time to American Family Field in Milwaukee to take on the Brewers. Freddy Peralta (5-8, 4.66 ERA) will begin the Mets’ night on the mound, while they’ll be greeted with Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski (10-4, 1.62 ERA). First pitch is at 7:40 pm local time and will be broadcast on SNY and Mets Radio 880 AM.
