Last night, it was announced that Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson unfortunately lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Gibson, 84, adds to the mounting list of other baseball legends (Tom Seaver, Lou Brock) lost in 2020.

The right hander had a 17 year career (all with St. Louis) which spanned three decades, highlighted by two World Series titles (while also winning WS MVP in both), capped with a 1968 MVP/Cy Young Award season (his first of two Cy Young’s) which most revere as the greatest pitching season of all-time.

Gibson was also a 9 time all-star and gold-glove award recipient, and along with his contemporary Tom Seaver, is considered to be one of the greatest right-handed pitchers in baseball history.

Although it is sad to say goodbye to another legend lost from baseballs’ last golden era, it’s important to try and focus on the things that made them so revered, and celebrate their amazing careers and lives.

RIP to one of the best to ever do it.
