In the ongoing saga of the 2009 Mets, here is the latest chapter. The Mets report,
Mets pitcher Oliver Perez today was examined by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
Upon the exam, Perez was diagnosed with patella tendon tendinosis in his right knee, which will require season-ending surgery.
He is expected to fully recover and be ready for Spring Training. (Wanna bet?)
Oliver Perez, 28, was 3-4 with a 6.82 ERA in 14 starts for the Mets. He spent more than two months on the disabled list with an identical injury earlier this season. This past winter, the Mets signed Perez to a three-year contract worth $36 million.
The disaster of the 2009 season began on the day the Mets signed Oliver Perez. His signing put a choke hold on the rotation and put the Mets post season hopes in jeopardy. Perez being out for the season is not surprising, but this time it just might improve the team.
Pitcher Lance Broadway will be called up from Buffalo, and replace Perez on the roster. You may remember we got him for Ramon Castro who is now batting .187. (echh!)
