According to Jon Heyman via Twitter, the Mets have been asking around about Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels. Nolan Ryan said prior to that that he expects Daniels to stay on and continue to build upon his vision and plan that transformed the team into a pennant contender. Daniels is currently in his fifth season as general manager of the Rangers, but he is able to opt out at the end of the season. He has given no indication that he intends to leave the Rangers, only that he loves his current job.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NewYork, the Detroit Tigers have declined the Mets’ request to interview Tigers assistant general manager Al Avila for their open GM position.
Avila, who is Hispanic, was being considered as part of the MLB policy regarding minority candidates. Under the MLB policy, the Mets are required to consider a minority candidate in their search for a new general manager.
Not sure if the Mets met that requirement or if they must look for another minority candidate to consider.
The Mets are expected to hold secondary interviews this week with the same GM candidates they met with last week. No names or dates have been confirmed yet, but Fred Wilpon will be present on this round of follow-ups.
