And right on cue, Mets OF Juan Lagares has been named National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 21.

Congratulations, Juan… Now go grab some pine…

Damn you, Terry…

Too many people get hung up on small sample sizes, and worse yet, small sample sizes based ion inconsistent play.

The reason I blasted Terry Collins as much as I did four weeks ago and again two weeks later was because of how he’s let Juan Lagares and Josh Satin squander on the bench. As I’ve been saying since April these players needed to play everyday and are better than any of their other alternatives.

Both Satin and Lagares have been on-base machines and their minor league records back that up.

Yesterday, Juan Lagares went 2-for-3 with a home run and and his three RBIs matched a career high. This came on the heels of his three-hit game on Saturday. All told, he was 7-for-10 during the three-game series and drove in five runs.

Additionally, Lagares has shown himself to be exactly what I said he was defensively when I said he was better than Matt den Dekker in center field. Who disputes that now?

Lets stop it already with all this pandering for the veterans and lets start giving these younger players the opportunity to show us what they can do and if they indeed should be counted on as viable pieces for the future of this organization.

Both Lagares and Satin have the ability to be effective run-producers at the plate and each have exceptional on-base ability. What we are seeing now is not a surprise to me, it’s more like validation. Keep playing them…
