New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares left Thursday night’s game against the Washington Nationals in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was announced later that Lagares had fractured his left thumb.

He dove for a ball in the top half of the inning and trainer Ray Ramirez came out to check on him.

Lagares had been in a hot stretch that saw him go 11 for his last 29 that raised his season average up to .269 in 47 games.

Curtis Granderson took over for Lagares in center field.
