Before yesterday’s game against the Reds, Terry Collins told reporters that catcher Josh Thole has been headache-free for several days.

The plan is now for Thole to begin a rehab assignment before he’s activated from the disabled list.

The Mets haven’t gotten much offensive help since Thole was sidelined, but the pitchers have said they like throwing to Mike Nickeas who has been the primary catcher in Thole’s absence. The problem with Nickeas is his lack of a consistent offensive side to his game.

Thole is certainly not the ideal major league catcher, but for now he’s the Mets’ best option.
