In what undoubtedly was the biggest game of Josh Smoker‘s young major league career, he excelled. Smoker was called upon to pitch in the top of the 10th inning in a 1-1 ballgame that the Mets needed to take in the worst way.

Smoker would have a great inning, retiring the Marlins in order. The inning included strikeouts of Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto. Of the 14 pitches he threw, 11 were strikes.

His perfect top of the 10th would set the Mets up for the walk-off in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of Yoenis Cespedes. The victory would give Josh his first major league win.

In a short sample, having only pitched six innings thus far this season, he stands at 1-0 with an ERA of 4.50. Smoker has appeared in just seven games so far this year, but has now shown his ability to pitch under pressure in the spotlight that is New York.
