He has only played six games this season, but Jose Reyes has already hit a surprising three homers since joining the Mets. While starting at third base, Reyes blasted two home runs yesterday, providing the team with their only offense on the day in a 3-2 loss to Washington.

“It’s sort of a surprise when I hit a homer,” Reyes said. “I don’t hit too many, but when I go to home plate, I just try to hit the ball hard.” (NY Post)

Combined between Toronto and Colorado last season, he only hit seven homers over a 116 game span. There is reason to believe that this may be more of an anomaly than an actual late power spike,  but nice to see nonetheless from the Reyes.

The former NL batting champion has no doubt helped the Mets lineup since coming back as he is looking to hit his stride in the 2016 campaign. He says the biggest problem for him right now is the upcoming All-Star break,  just as he’s really started to heat up.

“I’m looking forward to the second half. Only problem is everything for me started to come together and now I have four days off,” Reyes said. “For me, I don’t want that right now.

“In the second half, I believe I’m gonna get better. My right side is good. I think my left side is not quite there yet. When I put my left side together, it’s gonna be a fun second half.”

Jose could end up being the big acquisition bat this team needed as the injuries have mounted over the first half of the season. Since his return to the Mets, he has hit to a .250/.308/.708 slash line with three RBI and five runs scored to go along with the three homers.
