The Mets announced Tuesday they recalled right-handed starting pitcher José Butto from Triple-A Syracuse. He will start Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

The team placed Edwin Uceta on the 15-day injured list with a sprained right ankle. He last pitched three innings in Saturday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Butto will fill a hole in the rotation as the team waits out Max Scherzer’s 10-game suspension and Justin Verlander returning from injury. Butto could also start Sunday’s game versus the Atlanta Braves with Scherzer returning Monday. Verlander should make his Mets debut two or three days after that.

The 25-year-old pitched five innings of one-run ball on April 16 against the Oakland A’s in a spot start. He was sent down to Triple-A the following day for Brett Baty and hasn’t pitched in a game since then. He’ll have a slightly tougher matchup Tuesday than the anemic A’s, though the team ranks 28th in OPS and the team has as many home runs as Pete Alonso.

Tuesday’s game starts at 7:10 p.m., and he’ll face off against Josiah Gray.
