jon heyman

According to the good folks at Awful Announcing, here’s a shocker… Veteran MLB reporter Jon Heyman is no longer with CBS Sports. When contacted by Awful Announcing, Heyman confirmed the news to them and added that his role at MLB Network will be unaffected by the departure.

One of the most respected baseball insiders in the industry, Heyman leaves CBS Sports after four years. joining them at the end of 2011 after leaving a similar position at Sports Illustrated.

AA points out that Heyman joins two other seasoned veterans in Danny Knobler and Scott Miller who were let go by CBS in 2013.

“They are more focused on bolstering their Eye on Baseball blog by adding names like Mike Axisa, Dave Brown, and Dayn Perry rather than adding more feature columnists and reporters,” writes Joe Lucia.

Despite the angst I’ve had against Heyman these last few days for failing to include Mike Piazza on his HOF ballot, but voting for Barry Bonds, this guy does his job as well as anybody in the field when it comes to breaking baseball news. Nobody can touch him.

It will be interesting to see where he lands or maybe he just decides to fly solo and launch his own platform for delivering his rumors and news.
