You see… I told you not to worry…

Last night, the Bergen Record reported late last night that the Mets might shut down Johan Santana’s rehab because of a setback.  However, both Santana, Dan Warthen and Sandy Alderson are all denying the report.

The Daily News adds some quotes:

Santana: “ don’t know who’s saying that I’m not ready or whatever because according to everything, the way it has been done, we’re right on the right track and where we’re supposed to be. Whoever is saying that I’m not ready I think is lying.”

Warthen: “As far as I know (Santana) is right on time.”

Alderson: “There’s nothing wrong with (Santana’s rehab).”

Johan turns 32 years old today. Happy Birthday dude, get back soon, pitch your ass off, and prove all the doubters wrong.

According to Steve Popper and Bob Klapisch of The Record, Johan Santana’s rehabilitation may be shut down, putting his return jeopardy.

One member of the Mets’ organization said that the team is ready to shut down the rehabilitation schedule for Santana if he does not feel comfortable after what is expected to be a simple session of playing catch.

According to the source, Santana has not been progressing in his return to light throwing and the team is concerned enough to halt this section of his rehabilitation. By doing so, the Mets’ timetable of a possible late-June, early-July return to the team would likely be wiped out.

Internally, the Mets believe they’ll be “lucky” if Santana pitches this year.

I don’t see any other beat writers running with this yet, so until I see some confirmation from Adam Rubin, Brian Costa or Joel Sherman, I’m going to file this under “Okay, You Got My Attention”.

Santana is attempting to come back from surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. Last month, Sandy Alderson told reporters that there was a good chance Santana could re-join the rotation at the end of June or early to mid July.

We will monitor the situation and update this post as necessary.
