The New York Mets announced on Friday that left-hander Joey Lucchesi, a candidate to fill the final spot in the rotation that opened as a result of Kodai Senga’s injury, was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. The 30-year-old went 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA in nine starts for the Mets last season, striking out 32 in 46 2/3 innings. He gave up four earned runs in 1 1/3 innings this spring.

New York also optioned pitcher Reed Garrett to Syracuse while infielder Rylan Bannon and catcher/first baseman Austin Allen were reassigned to minor league camp.

Garrett has pitched to a 3.60 ERA across four appearances this spring after recording a 5.82 ERA in nine games with the Mets during the 2023 season.

Bannon is currently hitting .235/.300/.353 through 20 plate appearances after joining the organization on a minor league deal this offseason while Allen is slashing .182/.250/.273 across 12 plate appearances this spring.
