The New York Mets announced their player development awards of the season for 2023, with Jett Williams being named Player of the Year and Christian Scott getting Pitcher of the Year. Outfielder Jeffry Rosa was named DSL Complex Player of the Year and lefty Franklin Gómez was chosen as the DSL Complex Pitcher of the Year. Catcher Hayden Senger was awarded the Platinum Glove. William Lugo received the Infield Gold Glove and Rhylan Thomas earned the Outfield Gold Glove.

Williams, still only 19 years old, has been fantastic this season, including a three-run homer in the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies Game 1 Division Series win on Tuesday night. The 2022 first round pick hit .263/.425/.451 with 22 doubles, eight triples, 13 home runs, and 45 steals this year between the Low-A St. Lucie Mets, High-A Brooklyn Cyclones, and the Rumble Ponies. Williams walked 104 times and was the first teenager to lead the organization in walks since David Wright in 2002.

Scott, 24, also chipped into the Binghamton win on Tuesday with five strikeouts in three innings of one-run ball. The right-hander had a 2.57 ERA across three levels in 19 starts, which ranked 11th in all of minor league ball out of 509 pitchers this year with at least 80 innings pitched. His 0.86 WHIP ranked second among those qualifiers. The 2021 fifth round pick led all of those 509 minor league pitchers with a 28.4 K-BB% ratio.

The 19-year-old Rosa led the DSL with 15 home runs and a .669 slugging percentage. The right-handed hitter also had 13 doubles, 39 RBIs, and a 1.069 OPS in 44 games this season.

Gomez, 18, had a 2.45 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 44 innings in the DSL before his promotion stateside. He made one appearance each for the FSL Mets and St. Lucie Mets before the season ended. Gomez had a 2.66 ERA overall and a 1.07 WHIP to go along with 71 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 50 2/3 innings.

Senger, 26, played the entire season at Double-A Binghamton. The 21-year-old Lugo spent the entire season in Brooklyn, where he played third base (47 games), shortstop (42 games), and first base (11 games). The 23-year-old Thomas started the season in St. Lucie and finished in Binghamton, and he had a .407 OBP for the season.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies pitching coach AJ Sager was named Minor League Staff Member of the Year. Diana Perez, assistant coordinator, education and life skills, was named DSL Complex Staff Member of the Year.

The recipients of the Player and Pitcher of the Year awards, the Platinum Glove award and Staff Member of the Year awards will be honored during a pre-game, on-field ceremony at Citi Field on September 28 before New York’s 7:10 p.m. game against the Miami Marlins.
