Marc Carig of the Athletic wrote a phenomenal piece detailing Jessica Mendoza’s role with the Mets this past season as well as reporting a situation that emerged with regards to her role in media.

As a broadcaster for ESPN still, she was hoping to go about her job, as per usual, going through clubhouses prior to calling games.

However, that plan was nixed by the Los Angeles Dodgers who denied her access throughout the season. Instead, the organization had her sit in a “quarantined room” as Mendoza put it.

Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman intimated discomfort with the idea of having analysts that also work for teams being allowed in the clubhouse, with fear that they could relay private team information back to their respective clubs.

Brodie Van Wagenen said in the article, though, that her role with the Mets was not to serve as a spy. Instead, she has been doing work such as visiting pitching labs in order to help the team stay ahead of the curve technologically as well as providing character evaluations of managerial candidates.
