Jerry Blevins has been everything the New York Mets could have asked for this season as the lefty specialist delivered another rock solid performance on Friday night, The 32 year-old reliever has been one of several reliable arms in what’s been a strong bullpen for the Mets in 2016.

On the year, Blevins has posted great numbers, pitching to a 2.19 ERA with a WHIP of 0.97 in 40 appearances. During last night’s 3-1 loss to the Nationals, he tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief while striking out three and allowing no hits.

In 24.2 innings pitched on the season, he has struck out 26 batters and he has not allowed a run since June 28th when he last faced Washington.

Blevins though has not just been successful against lefties, who have posted a .228 batting average against him in 57 at-bats. He has limited right-handed hitters to a .115 batting average in 26 at-bats.

Remarkably, Blevins has now stranded 30 of 32 inherited runners this season. He has been one of the keys to the success of the bullpen, and he’s been able to neutralize lefty slugging teams like the Nationals all season long. He has stepped in and gotten some pretty big big outs for Terry Collins and he’ll be relied upon to continue his prowess as the season progresses.
