Jeremy Hefner announced via Twitter that he will be undergoing Tommy John Surgery on Wednesday morning and likely miss most if not all of the 2014 season.

After seeking a second opinion, an examination on Monday with Dr. James Andrews confirmed the initial diagnosis and surgery was recommended.

An MRI a week ago, showed that Hefner has a partial tear of the MCL in his right elbow.

After getting off to a rough start, Hefner turned a corner in May and was among one of the top pitchers in the league through the All Star Break. When he returned, it was obvious something was wrong as his velocity was down 5-6 mph and his pitches lost some of that great late movement. He finishes the season with a 4-8 record and a 4.34 ERA.

Good luck tomorrow, Heff… And get well soon….
