Jeff McNeil was ranked the second-best second basemen in MLB by MLB Network on Wednesday night.

Since the 2010 season, MLB Network has aired their segment Top Ten Right Now at every position. The segment calls upon the shredder to analyze every position and pick the top ten players.

McNeil was ranked second overall after a historic bounce-back season. After finishing 2021 with an 87 OPS+, McNeil tore up MLB in 2022. He led the NL with a .326 batting average (the first Met to ever lead MLB in batting average), recorded a 140 OPS+ and 5.7 bWAR, won a Silver Slugger award, was an All-Star, and finished 15th in MVP voting.

McNeil has been previously ranked in the Top Ten by MLB Network in the past. He was ranked as the second-best second baseman heading into the 2021 season and the ninth-best before the 2022 season. However, when he first appeared on the list, McNeil was ranked as the fifth-best third basemen before the 2020 season.

Another familiar face made the Top Ten list for second basemen on Wednesday night. Andrés Giménez made his first appearance on a Top Ten list and was ranked as the third-best second baseman heading into the 2023 season. Giménez made his debut with the Mets during the 2020 shortened season and was a part of the trade package for Francisco Lindor. He found his footing with Cleveland in 2022 and led the Guardians with a 7.4 bWAR.

Four other Mets have appeared on MLB Network’s respective Top Ten lists. Pete Alonso was ranked the fifth-best first baseman, Brandon Nimmo was ranked the fourth-best center fielder, Starling Marte was ranked the seventh-best right fielder, and Edwin Diaz was ranked the first-overall closer. MLB Network has not released their Top Ten for shortstops, starting pitchers, and catchers.
