Jeff McNeil left the Mets game on Thursday afternoon against the Nationals in the third inning. After sliding into second base on a play in which he was forced out, McNeil was shown in the dugout talking to manager Mickey Callaway and both trainers.

It was announced on SNY that McNeil left the game because of an abdominal strain. The Mets leadoff man had surgery to repair two sports hernias back in 2016.

McNeil was 1-for-2 with a single before leaving the game. He’s hitting .354 with a .924 through 170 plate appearances in 2019.

Juan Lagares replaced McNeil in the lineup playing center field with Brandon Nimmo shifting over to left field.
