In the first game of the Mets’ doubleheader with the Marlins, Jeff McNeil recorded his 200th hit and became the fastest Met to do so in franchise history. The record was previously held by Dave Magadan, who did so in 667 at-bats, while McNeil recorded the feat in his 599th career at-bat.

McNeil now sits at 599 career at-bats in 162 games, giving himself a full season’s worth of playing time. He has posted a career slash line of .334/.395/.509 with 17 home runs, 69 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and only 79 strikeouts.

McNeil, who was counted out by so many within prospect circles prior to his promotion last summer, has proven to become one of the best pure hitters in all of baseball.

McNeil has only grounded into six double plays in his career and has hit seven triples. He already has over 30 multi-hit games this season, and is poised to increase that number as the Mets continue on this miracle run.

So far in 2019, McNeil is already an All-Star, has posted a +4 DRS in right field (a position he has had to learn on the fly), and has been a solid defender at left field, second base, and third base. He’s done all this while leading the league in batting for the brunt of the summer.

The future only looks brighter for McNeil, who continues to try and lead the Mets on an unlikely postseason run through the months of August and September, each of which the Mets have performed well in the last few years.
