Mets infielder Jed Lowrie played in his second game in three days on Thursday night as the designated hitter for the St. Lucie Mets.

He went 1-for-4 with a double, strikeout, and two fly ball outs to center field. Lowrie went 1-for-4 with an RBI in his first rehab game on Tuesday night.

Lowrie has yet to play in a major league game for the Mets after signing a two-year deal in the offseason. He has missed time with knee sprain and consistent hamstring issues.

Jeff McNeil started a rehab assignment on Thursday with the Syracuse Mets though the inclement weather halted that after only one inning. McNeil was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored in the first inning. He started in right field and Mets manager Mickey Callaway said that the plan for McNeil was to play five-to-seven innings and play both outfield corner spots.

Brandon Nimmo (back) was not in the lineup on Thursday for Syracuse after going 0-for-3 on Wednesday night. Robinson Cano (torn hamstring) has been taking live BP and did some running on Thursday.

Other Mets Minors Notes

For the first time in his pro career (used to do it somewhat frequently in college) St. Lucie Mets player Carlos Cortes showed off his ambidextrous ability on Thursday. The Mets 2018 third round pick started the game as a right-handed throwing second baseman and finished the game as a left-handed throwing left fielder.

Columbia Fireflies right-hander Jose Butto struck out four in two innings last night. He has now made five straight outings as a starter with only two innings thrown as the Mets monitor his innings, he has a career-high 108 innings (previous high is 60.2 innings). In those 10 innings, he has 12 strikeouts and zero walks.

GCL Mets outfielder Kenedy Corona had two more hits on Thursday night. The 19-year-old is slashing .360/.421/.680 with five doubles, triple, and three homers in his last 13 games. He has a .867 OPS overall between the DSL and GCL during his first pro season.
