According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets requested to interview Yankees executive Jean Afterman, though she decided to decline the opportunity. Add Afterman to the growing list of baseball executives that the Mets have struck out during their front office search.
Afterman is currently a senior vice president and assistant GM in the Yankees organization. The long-time Yankees exec is one of the highest ranking women in baseball, and has been with the Yankees since 2001.
The Mets are expected to talk to another high-ranking female executive, Raquel Ferriera, from the Red Sox at some point soon.
Martino also reported on Wednesday that the Mets had interest in former Yankees and Angels executive Billy Eppler.
