The Brooklyn Cyclones have announced their 2022 Opening Day roster as they are set to begin their season on the road against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. This is a roster featuring players who were a part of the Cyclones 2019 New York-Penn League Championship team.

Pitchers

Daison Acosta
Garrison Bryant
Jose Chacin
Justin Courtney
David Griffin
Josh Hejka
Colby Morris
Carlos Ocampo
Hunter Parsons
Oscar Rojas
Evy Ruibal
Junior Santos
Reyson Santos
Sammy Tavarez
Jesus Vargas

The big name here is Santos. He is the Opening Day starter and the highest rated prospect on the staff. In fact, he’s the only one in MMN‘s Top 30. He is looking to take another step forward in his progression towards hopefully being a Major League starter.

Bryant returns to Brooklyn after being the staff ace for the team who won the final New York-Penn League Championship. Of course, back in 2019, Brooklyn was a Low-A short season affiliate, and now, after minor league contraction, Brooklyn is the New York Mets High-A affiliate. Tavarez is the high-octane of the group, routinely hitting in the upper-90s.

Catchers

Nic Gaddis
Jose Mena
Matt O’Neill

O’Neill and Gaddis were both catchers drafted by the Mets in the late rounds of the 2019 draft. What’s notable with this crop is O’Neill is the only player in this group who has strictly been a catcher at the minor league level.

Infielders

Jose Peroza
Wilmer Reyes
Warren Saunders
JT Schwartz
Wyatt Young

Peroza and Reyes were part of that championship team. Peroza just missed MMN‘s Top 30 rankings with Reyes coming in at 28. They are part of a very promising young infield looking to take the leap.

That includes Schwartz, who was the Mets 29th ranked prospect. Schwartz displayed big power potential at UCLA, and now, he is looking to show he can do it at the professional level.

Outfielders

Rowdey Jordan
Brandon McIlwain
Tanner Murphy
Jaylen Palmer
Matt Rudick
Joe Suozzi

The big name here is Palmer who has played all over the diamond. The Flushing native has now been listed as an outfielder where he can show off his tremendous skills in center.

Like Palmer, Suozzi is a local kid. The Long Island native grew up in Glen Glove and is a Chaminade High School alum. Previously, another Chaminade grad, John Lannan pitched for the New York Mets.
