In a post by Andy McCullough on NJ.com, he writes that Jerry Manuel does not expect Jason bay to return this season.

The reports the manager says he sees do not offer much hope. Jerry Manuel indicated on Friday he does not expect to see outfielder Jason Bay return to the playing field this year. Bay, Manuel said, continues to suffer from concussive symptoms and has yet to resume baseball activity. So Manuel is not planning for his imminent return.

“That’s way I see it,” Manuel said. “I could be way out of line. Way out of bounds. But that’s the way I see it.”

Wow, that would be a big blow to any chance the Mets might have had at salvaging this season.

If this is true, consider Jason Bay’s first season of his 4 year mega-deal a complete disaster.

With over $70 million remaining over the next four years which includes his easily obtainable option, the Mets better hope for a HUGE recovery and comeback in 2011, or this could end up being the most disastrous contract in franchise history.

Bay would end this season with just six home runs, 47 RBI and a .259 batting average. He was expected to be the Mets answer to Carlos Delgado in the home run department, but ends up ranking seventh in the league in that department.
