New York Mets pitcher, Jacob deGrom put forth another quality start on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. It though was not enough as the team fell to their lowly NL East rival by a score of 6-0, as Atlanta completed their sweep.

On the day, deGrom pitched six innings while allowing three runs. He gave up five hits while hitting a batter, walking one and striking out six as he took the loss. Jacob’s record fell to 3-4 on the season as his ERA rose to 2.96 while his WHIP went down a hair to 1.14. DeGrom has not won a decision since April 30.

“I’m more frustrated with myself about today,” deGrom said. “I wasn’t very good today. We got out-pitched today, and they put up some runs against us. That’s pretty much what happened.” (NY Post)

DeGrom, 28, did not have a terrible day on the mound as the quality start was the 49th of his career. His 49 quality starts through his first 64 career starts are second-most in franchise history behind Dwight Gooden‘s 51 such starts.

One of deGrom’s biggest problems has been the high pitch counts as he has been unable to put away batters in two strike counts as easily as he has in years past. His control has not been the same, missing his spots, causing too many full-counts.

“I’m just not making the pitch when I need to,” deGrom said.

It has been a whirlwind season for deGrom as seems to be the case for a few Mets starters this season. Between the complications that his son dealt with after birth and his own injury issues, it has been a rough season for the pitcher, personally and professionally.

The Mets need their starters to step up to their best performances yet again as the offense has been anemic and the team relies on their staff to pull them through daily. It has been a rough stretch for this team to say the least.
