MLB Network continued their Top 100 Right Now series on Thursday night unveiling their top ten. Coming in at number three was New York Mets starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom. The third place finish is the highest of any MLB pitcher and solidifies his position as the best pitcher in baseball.
DeGrom in 2020 was 4-2 with a 2.38 ERA. He recorded 104 strikeouts over the course of 68 innings pitched with a WHIP of 0.96. He averaged about 14 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and his strikeouts-to-hits-allowed ratio was more than 2:1, using a combination of pitches opposing batters often found unhittable.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner has been dominant throughout his career. He recorded 255 strikeouts in 2019, 269 in 2018, and 239 in 2017. His current lifetime stats are: 70-51 with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.
Coming into spring training 2021, deGrom is looking to help his teammates as he uses his knowledge to help other pitchers at camp. “I’ve been kicking it with deGrom all day talking about how to get better,” stated Marcus Stroman in his Thursday press conference after the day’s workouts concluded.
