MLB Network continued their annual rankings of the top 10 players at each position around baseball and Jacob deGrom, unsurprisingly, was named the best starting pitcher in all of baseball.
DeGrom, 31, has won back-to-back National League Cy Young Awards and registered a 2.43 ERA, 2.67 FIP, 0.971 WHIP, 11.3 K/9, and 1.9 BB/9 in 2019. His 2018 season was even better, though, as he had a 1.70 ERA, 1.98 FIP, 0.912 WHIP, 11.2 K/9, and 1.9 BB/9.
American League Cy Young Award winner, Justin Verlander, ranked behind deGrom on the list followed by Yankees’ new ace, Gerrit Cole.
Following those three were Max Scherzer, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Zack Greinke, Jack Flaherty, Patrick Corbin, Mike Clevinger, and Walker Buehler.
One notable omission from that group was Clayton Kershaw who was pretty much a mainstay among lists ranking starters in the game for the last decade.
The Washington Nationals and Houston Astros both had two pitchers make the list.
