So far this offseason, the Miami Marlins have stripped down the core of their team, trading Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and Dee Gordon.

With Derek Jeter and crew wanting to strip down payroll to as low as it can be, the Fish are in complete rebuild mode. Catcher J.T. Realmuto recognizes this and wants to be traded, according to Craig Mish of Sirius XM.

Realmuto, 26, was good for 3.6 WAR behind the dish for Miami in 2017. He also clubbed 17 home runs and drove in 65 runs while hitting to a .278/.332/.451 clip in 579 plate appearances.

The Marlins said in response that they have no intentions of moving him or Christian Yelich despite the rebuild, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post opines that Realmuto would be a perfect fit for the Mets, but notes their thin farm system as the ultimate reason they wouldn’t be able to acquire him.

Realmuto is arbitration eligible for the first time in 2018 and can become a free agent in 2021.
