J.D. Davis normally makes headlines because of his bat, but today, he earned recognition for his glove.

For his over the shoulder grab on Thursday’s game against the Indians, Davis won the MLB Play of the Week Award. Davis, a natural third baseman, ranged back to the warning track in left field to make the highlight reel play.

Davis is in the midst of a breakout campaign, boasting a .303 average and .868 OPS in 356 plate appearances this season. But he’s mostly struggled defensively with -7 Davis’ Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and a -3.2 Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR) in left field. Meanwhile, at third base, Davis’ DRS stands at -8 and his UZR is -1.7.

Given his struggles on defense, it’s a great sign to see him make such a nice catch and to be awarded for his play in the outfield.
