The New York Mets made a number of moves in front of their series finale versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

The team placed third baseman J.D. Davis on the 10-day IL with a sprained left hand. They also reactivated relief pitcher Sean Reid-Foley from the 60-day IL, and in a corresponding move, designated outfielder Albert Almora for assignment.

Davis has been dealing with that nagging left hand all season, as he has found himself on several trips to the IL throughout the year. The original injury dates all the way back to April 6th, when Davis was struck on his left hand by Phillies pitcher Chase Anderson.

Davis ends the season with a .285/.384/.436/.820 slash line and a 130 wRC+–a solid offensive performance, but he struggled to stay healthy. Davis only had five starts in the month of September with a handful of pinch hits on top of that.

Reid-Foley makes his long-awaited return to the active roster, as he has been dealing with right elbow inflammation that dates back to late June. In his 12 appearances earlier this season, Reid-Foley put together a 2-1 record, with a 5.23 ERA, and 26 K’s over 20 2/3 innings.

With Reid-Foley activated, Almora came at the expense of his arrival. Almora was already sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on September 15, but the DFA could mean that we have also seen his last game as a New York Met. Overall on the season, he put together an incredibly underwhelming slash line of .115/.148/.173.

Since they are now eliminated from playoff contention, the Mets will at least look to end the year on a healthy note. Once they finish up against Milwaukee, they come back to Flushing to face the Marlins and Braves in a seven-game home stand. The major storylines for these games are the possible return of both Jacob DeGrom and Noah Syndergaard. It would be a very encouraging sign if the two stud starting pitchers were to look healthy at the end of yet another disappointing season.
