Mets’ infielder/outfielder J.D. Davis has been sidelined for a few weeks with a sprained finger, but will likely return to the big league club sometime this upcoming week.

Davis, 28, is part of a long list of Mets’ players who have been hit by the injury bug. The list, which now includes 15 players, has been devastating to the team’s offense and starting rotation specifically, but New York still finds themselves up 2.5 games in the National League East.

Regardless, Davis returning will be a small step in the right direction for the Mets. Apart from taking reps at first base with Triple-A Syracuse, that could help the big squad in the short term with Pete Alonso also sidelined, Davis also slugged a home run on Saturday.

It will likely be a long time before we see the Mets back in full-fledged action, but for a team that has had to resort to playing Wilfredo Tovar and Jose Peraza on a daily basis, getting a team regular back, and one that has pop in his bat, will give them some much needed length in the lineup.

The Mets return home on Monday for a four-game bout with the Colorado Rockies, followed by a three-game weekend series with the Atlanta Braves.
