During Saturday night’s broadcast on FOX, it was announced that New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters ahead of the game that, at this current juncture, J.D. Davis would be in line to start the 2020 season as the Mets’ left fielder.

After experiencing a breakout season at the plate, slashing .307/.368/.522 with 21 homers, 22 doubles, 55 RBIs, and a 135 wRC+ over 446 plate appearances through his first full MLB season, Davis, 26, has certainly proven that his bat can play at this level.

His defense in the outfield (-9 DRS, -4.4 UZR over 570.1 innings in left field) leaves ample room for improvement, but he’s shown the ability to field his position serviceably.

We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
